Economic Empowerment

Refugee women and girls in Uganda encounter distinct economic difficulties that frequently stem from gender-based discrimination and inequality. They are often denied the opportunity to attend school, restricting their potential for economic empowerment. Furthermore, refugee women face significant obstacles in accessing formal employment, leading to limited earning prospects and potential economic insecurity. Due to increased risks of gender-based violence, refugee women and girls may face limitations on their ability to participate in economic activities and work. ,additionally, many lack access to financial services such as banking and credit, which hampers their capacity to save, acquire credit, or launch businesses. moreover, the prohibition on land ownership for refugee women restricts their ability to engage in agriculture or other land-based economic activities.
